The Red Amaryllis

We were walking through the flower section at our local grocery store when we came across a bulb starter/grower kit for beautiful red amaryllis blooms.

I chose to purchase the bright red amaryllis with the thought in the back of my mind that these blooms could make a great subject for a future painting.

They are very easy to grow!

Everything we needed was included in the kit. Our bulb sent up a shoot the first week. Very exciting! Large trumpet shaped blooms appeared at about 6 weeks.

The shorter days were livened up with the bright red blossoms. We enjoyed our amaryllis. It was a very fun adventure. Right after the holidays we saw a tulip growing kit! I think painting a tulip is in my near future.
