Alabama State Flower - The Camellia

The Camellia is a beautiful flower.

For my state flower illustrations I chose to use water-based marker pens. I love this medium. When you zoom in you'll see these details. Notice how the petals and leaves were created with many fine pen strokes.

The Camellia hasn't always been Alabama's state flower. In 1927 the Goldenrod was given this very high honor. In 1959 the Camellia replaced the Goldenrod.
